I’m inspired by people who have made it on their own: Ria Nalavade

Bengaluru girl Ria Nalavade, who moved to Mumbai four years ago, says she misses her home the most. The model turned actress, also a former Times Fresh Face winner, has been shooting for a lead role in a Hindi series and is exploring her creativity as writer and director. “I am a true Bengalurean at heart. I have grown up here. There are a lot of people and memories here that I have left behind,” she says during her visit.

As a filmmaker, I hope to tell the stories of human beings who come out of some sort of oppression. The underdog is the most interesting character. All of my films will have someone who comes out of nothing to something. Somebody like myself

“I miss the overall welcoming nature of the people in Bengaluru, and like everyone who has ever lived here, I miss the weather.Also, I really miss the breweries, and the nightlife that we have over here that’s unique to this city,” says Ria.

When I started out, I didn’t know anything or anyone in the entertainment industry. Whatever I have learned is from scratch and every opportunity that has come my way has happened after a lot of hustling. I’m inspired by people who have made it on their own

On the work front, she tells us, “After I moved to Mumbai, I pursued modelling, did several ad films and became a part of a few independent feature films as well. As a young female actor in the industry, I never found any roles that empowered young female characters. Such roles usually went to a star kid or they were just not written for an up and coming actress. I thought I might as well write those roles myself. Over the last two years, I have been working towards taking up roles behind the camera. Now, I have a few of my own projects which have been picked by production houses.”
